@Joykillz I mainly got used to the Subbed experience due to Animes designed to sell the manga and light novels, so I typically go immediately towards the Manga or Light Novel... I prefer the sound of the original actors over dubbed ones. Bad audio mixing is too common in English Dubs, while the Subs are make it or break it moments for any series.
A foriegn property for me is a place to listen to another language's speech and something closer to the original vision. That's how I view it. I find English Voice acting seems to be getting worse, or straight up incestous ( keeping the same bad voice actors and actresses ). I've heard this isn't the case for French or German dubs, but if knew / understood. I would give it a listen to see if that is true.

if you're talking about Dubbed anime, then no you're not alone, but personally I usually like my anime dubbed, since reading subs would probably just mean the experience would be better as a manga.

Most foreign entertainment. Anime, I hate the dubs due to Funimation and Crunchyroll 1. Censoring or 2. Inserting Politics. 3. You lose the politeness out of characters... It's disrespectful towards the original vision. Hell I don't like bad translations like in Squid Game. Where it changed basic stuff words like " Oppa " ( Korean ), to old man? WTF While in the original it was just an adressing. Like Oni-Chan in Japanese, but a tad flirty if it is not with a sibling.
I typically with Anime immedately go to Sub rather than Dub due to how fucking incompotent Funimation and Crunchyroll are as Dubbers and doing stupid shit with the Sub. The anime; what happens for me is... That I end up finishing the anime, than go to the manga, than wait it out to see if the anime's adaptation was good.
They're good dubs that exist... Panty and Stocking is a dub that I over time hate due to a voice actress named Monica Rial for what she did to Vic. It's a mix between vendetta for voice actors and actresses, and the companies involved are on my shit list.....
The actors and actresses that Studio Trigger and Gianax use ( outside of Monica Rial ) I can actually stand and enjoy. As Kamina's voice acting is a bliss to the ears.
I typically prefer fan subs / translations over official ones. Like in Combatants will be dispatched, where the official manga's translation really was a kick in the shin, with one of the best joke delivers The manga said " Dick festival ", the fan-translation also did, but the official translation " cock carnival ". The dub of that anime version was dreadful with Monica Rial's mismatched horribly voice acted performance, it's literally stocking's voice BUT WORSE.
I like Subs over Dubs due to mainly keeping the formal speech pattern time to time or destroys the lack of context in the Dub ( as Dubs try to match lip flaps ). I see dub's as easier to digest for beginners or casuals, while Subs 1. Impatiet, 2. Third-party, 3. Audio is SOOOOOO Much better.
A lot of the voice performances typically sound more varied and better in the Sub. Combatants will be dispatched was such an interesting performance... The translation to the best of ability; doesn't do a good job at all for it. As how Agent Six speaks, is 100% rude, hell has Sarcasm, something you will never hear in day to day Japanese interactions. :X The Dub had good side characters that were excellent, but dreadful main character performances.
Studying Japanese due to 1. Bad localizers, 2. want to keep better eye on the country's advancing entertainment industry, 3. Pixiv isn't English dominated, and Japanese has REALLY helped me on the platform. 4. I would love to enjoy light novels without having to rely on any third-party translator / company. 5. I'm an importer, I don't like the size of English published/produced manga AT ALL. It's too big, the artwork is in the wrong aspect ratio, and paid too much for lack luster service in a similar wait time. While similarly priced manga I can import has much better respect and love in the packaging, with a bonus origami, and thank you letter, the smaller size and better cover art make me skip English translated manga. 6. I would love to communicate and get better help from Japanese Artists on Pixiv and give them a hand if want someone to translate their work. 7. Don't like Western Localizers editing mediums like Light Novels or Anime at all, as Seven Seas publishing was caught in the act of doing that.
